Red Alert 3: Uprising Clarifications

Hey everyone,

Check out this first video interview with Producer Amer Ajami
http://www.commandandconquer.com/portal/site/redalert/article/detail?contentId=c60ee55ffc7be110VgnVCM100000100d2c0aRCRD

A few clarifications so it's all in one thread. First off, I made a mistake:

-Uprising WILL HAVE TRADITIONAL SKIRMISH MODE, so you will be able to play agianst the AI with the new units that have been added to each of the 3 factions. We're also adding a huge number of new maps. While this expansion add-on has a huge central focus on single player, we were able to incorporate traditional skirmish. See below for further explanation.

And now for some more consolidation:

-The Commander's Challenge which features over 50 different scenarios is very similar to the General's Challenge Mode. It is not, and I repeat not simply an achievement based mode. This is an entirely seperate component of Uprising comprised of over 50 different challenges which are almost like mini-missions with different objectives and challenges.

-While Red Alert 3 base game is still in its infancy, its important to us to continually give the game strong support with patches, tournaments, etc as it continues to evolve. Our objective with Uprising was not to quickly add a 4th faction to online play. We decided we would try something new and create a campaign expansion that delivered on exactly what many in the community asked for in our research - new UNIITS AND STORY. Uprising provides a continuation of the story line for each of the 3 factions, plus we’ve added a 4th mini-campaign which will be centered around the newest commando, Yuriko. We think you guys will really enjoy the Yuriko campaign and agree that it plays out like nothing you've seen before in a Command & Conquer game. While co-op nor multiplayer are not included with Uprising, we absolutely haven't forgotten our multiplayer audience and will have more info in the coming months ahead.

-Uprising will include a large amount of new multiplayer maps for skirmish play, which we will also make available in near future patches for the Red Alert 3 base game as well. That is pretty cool.

-Uprising will be available for digital download at first release through the EA Store this March, but please rest assured we are looking in to other distribution models which does include retail

-We have not determined the suggested retail price yet for Uprising, but part of the reason why we decided to become a digital download was so that we could pass some of the savings onto all of you out there. We realize that times are tough, so we are making sure that Uprising will be a great value and something that any Command & Conquer fan can afford. More on the exact price in the weeks to come.

-APOC

Now it will be more like a steady stream of profit for EA as they release a steady stream of content...

Thats how micro expansions are supposed to work, if, however, the content does not deliver, then this is a bad mistake and THEN you should start chewing out EA.
This is starting to make sense to me now. So we will get new units and maps, with the ability to get used to them in skirmish mode.
The campaigns will be shorter, maybe half the length of the RA3 campaigns but there will be a bonus campaign for Yuriko.
It was stated that one of the campaigns will be a dungeon crawler type, so I'm assuming it will be like an RPG? Maybe like the old RA1 indoor maps?
Maybe they are not releasing the multiplayer because they need to balance the new units first? Everything else i assume would be exclusive to the expansion.

Also is that a concept for a desolator i see in the video?
online players have to remember they are playing a franchise that has a huge single player audience. It's not like they forgot about the multiplayer guys either as apoc said.

the only downfall would be if they try to palm each booster pack off at full price. If they did each for half the usual expansion price everyone wins. if you want both its a normal expansion price if not you save money

but thats only if
yeah im for that... but Each mini expansion should then be 9.99 if your aiming for half.. and i know EA probably will not go for 9.99..especially since the EA store says 19.99, which is the cost of the full KW expansion pack...... thats where im not real supportive of this its going to cost more for less. that and there was no word on MP units... i so want anti air infantry for japan, and with the prospective of new units and new gameplay coming out, i might as well quit RA3 for now, since by the time anything big gets announced the MP expansion should be out =/

but either way, when are we going to get updates about that type of stuff for mp?

Red Alert 3: Uprising Clarifications
While Red Alert 3 base game is still in its infancy, its important to us to continually give the game strong support with patches, tournaments, etc as it continues to evolve.
Wait, would you at least eventually patch the new Uprising stuff into multiplayer or something?
Our objective with Uprising was not to quickly add a 4th faction to online play.
Does this actually mean there WILL BE a 4th faction in a future RA3 expansion?

And finally, I'm surprised you guys are going to release this 2 months from now. I hope the quality's of this mini-expansion is good. So far, I don't fancy all the units (I only like the Desolator and the Allied stuff so far), but it's good to see you guys aren't afraid of diversifying the game's three factions. And I'm happy with the whole campaign thing.

Hopefully next expansion features the Uprising content balanced for multiplayer gameplay and adds World Domination and other modes in the online part of the game. Perhaps the last expansion could add the 4th faction. Though, personally, I'm not too fond of the idea at the moment, I'd say give the base game some time at least, if you're considering adding Yuri or who knows what other faction to RA3. I also like the idea of the campaigns being continued, as they did feel kind of short in the base game. (Let's hope the last expansion also adds more campaign/story) Anyways, this is looking sUPRISINGly (hahaha) nice, tell the guys at EALA to keep up with the great work they're doing!
$19.95 is a good price. Why change it?
because a full expansion pack with MP and SP only costs 19.99.....

and to answer the question that some people keep asking "what is canon?"

Answer: Canon is a term that refers to story lines that officially happened, where there could be alternate endings/ plot arcs that were told in the story but were not canon because they didnt officially happen...

Traditionally with CNC games one of the campaigns is Canon, as all the campaigns tell things differently with out actually being linked together.

For example Starcrafts 3 campaigns link together to form a whole story, thus no alternate stories are told. While CNC games tell each story from the side of each faction and the stories are generally completely independent from each other. So Character A could be a spy, While character B figures this out and kills character A in one campaign, but that never happens in a different version. And the canon version is the one thats officially used for sequels and stuff. So if Character A is not killed in the canon story. character A will be alive in the sequel.

Loves to play skirmish. Loves to play against the cheap AI but it does offer a challenge i give it that. I mean does anyone here play this game for the single player?

Its just seems to me alot yall are pissed that they actually looking at the ones who play the single player. I don't play online and never will unless it is with a friend i know. The only thing that might be a problem is the Digital Download but other than that I will buy this on day one.

Besides if you don't want it DON"T BUY IT!! It is that simple folks. Remember all those Booster packs for Battlefeild 2? Not to many people bought those things but people kept playing it online though. Just keep that in mind before you start to whine about no MP.

When Uprising is released it will be 6 months or so of RA3 being out, and well, if people wanted MP for Uprising, this would split the community to soon, and not give EALA enough time to balance the MP properly.

I'm happy that RA3 is still the only game getting patched, and that there will be plenty of new ranked 1v1 and 2v2 maps coming to RA3 through future patches becaue of this. And hey, I'm just happy that they said 'future patches.'

Let them have this little money milk with RA3, there are over hundreds of thousands of RTS players who never ever go online, and only play skirmish and campaign, so be sure to see all these people buying it.

EA,

I am fed up with how you treat your customers. I will pay for patches to correct mistakes you made for the game?! NOW you add an anti-air for the EOTRS, a definite lapse you failed to correct during your "beta testing". You don't have to wonder why other companies like Valve are getting good grades than you. They add improved contents for FREE making the game ever more deep and their initially release is as good enough.

Doesn't it make sense that you should give it to us as a major patch with these small number of additional units and small number of additional campaigns (which I will most likely not touch)? I stopped playing since Empire is easily beaten by Vindicator bombers. No way I will pay for you fixing that. It should be a FREE patch, you greedy pigs!

But I cannot find any latest news on the SDK.
And to say they work on it is kinda "generic" ... I hope they do but it says nothing about the status of the SDK or a release estimate. Modding support kinda sucks and probably ever will. I'm sorry if this sounds rude but it's the sad truth. They released a god *** bugged World Builder and felt even not engaged enough to sticky a WB bug thread or to fix the most annoying bugs of version 1.0

And when I read now "oh, we are so proud to announce the boosterpack with the imaginative name 'Uprising' and hope we can prove our will to support the game this way" I begin to wonder where the heck the promised mod support is? Maybe, it's just me, but I would never call this policy of ignorance "support"

Yes, I know I'm so mean.

It is an add on. Red Alert 3 is just 2 MONTHS old and some group of people over at EA decided to announced that an expansion with some MINOR additional contents ONLY for single player mode with NO multiplayer or cooperative mode units addition for a cost. Apparently with a new commander's challenge with 50 scenarios and new maps. Tiberium Wars took about a good year before the Kane's Wrath expansion. I had no problems with that.

Again, as I pointed out, it should be free for the game to gain more popularity. More people will buy the base game. Most games took years before venturing to expansions. It amazes me that EA expects you to pay more for so little. I do buy expansions for games, but this time EA is selling it just after 4 months after release of the base game. Go figure.
Try going for Easy AI first, THEN you can build up from there
As I already said – I can beat Normal AI.
The difficulty is not the problem.
I played many RA3 games and I just don’t enjoy the game that much because units get killed so fast before I can micro them properly.
Are you sure your units aren't dying quickly because of the hard counter system and some one-shot one-kill units?
That is part of the problem, but overall units get killed very fast even from units that don’t counter them.
If I could only decrease the game speed by 30% (like I do in C&C3) then I will have more time to micro my units and enjoy the game better.

-APOC
This is an epic fail apoc im sorry. Nobody wants to spend twice the money for the bundle of more missions and more multi player functionality. This is just plane stupid. Im sure in your research of what we want, nowhere did it mention releasing two separate expansions. Very very stupid in my opinion to make us buy two expansions. EA should make this add on free of charge.....

Again, unfortunately EA will $ucker people into buying this. EA should take their time like other companies "Blizzard E" AND release complete bug free games and full complete expansions. Enough of this half-a$$ BS that is going on.

I know it is not your fault APOC and you are just the messenger.
wat do u mean it is only £15.99 not double the money of the first 1
