lol yeah I forgot about that one.
It'd be far simpler.

will add that later today - haven't got time at the mo. I'll leave the other one in as a business/ultimate only option though.

Hello frankaz. I've found something that fixes Red Alert 1 from freezing. It's a hardware fix, so the user needs to be comfortable with the BIOS. To fix Red Alert from freezing with repeating sound on modern Core 2 cpus, disable speedstep (C1 function and on some motherboards the EIST function aswell). The crash occured whenever the CPU changed speeds when red alert was running. This explains why it did not happen every time the game was running, but happened more often when other programs were running in the background.

doesn't switching to single core with ForceCore fix that too? The problem with that is that the 2 cores desynchronize.

Hello...

On C&C Mission 6 (Commando Mission), the game freezes when I get about an inch from the top of the map, and I receive the following error message:

Application Error: C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\COMMAN~1\COMMAN~1\C&C95.exe
The instruction at 00432421 referenced memory at 01befc29
The memory could not be read from

Click on OK to terminate the application

Can this be corrected ? And will this be a problem throughout the game and the rest of the games ?

Thanks !

Nope. That fixes a different problem. This error occurs when the system changes the CPU clock speed to cope with demand, it is not the same one which causes the game to hang with hyperthreading/multiple cores.

In answer to your post Phantom, have you applied Nyergud's 1.06 patch?

INSTALL THE FRICKING PATCH! FFS, you're posting in a thread that has a list of solutions. The least you could do is LOOK at them. There's even a separate sticky thread about the patch.

Really though, this IS the Common Problems thread. It's pretty useless posting problems in here if the solution is in the first post.

not to mention, if he has TFD he should've installed 1.03 right away.

You could also copy the entire disc contents to a folder on your HD and see if it'll install from there.
If you are having trouble with other CDs/DVDs then it could be this:
Change the transfer mode to PIO:
http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/cci/ea/cd_troubleshooting.php#piomode
If you have 2 DVD-ROMs on the same Data cable that can be the problem, Put one of the DVD-ROMs onto the same data cable as you Hard Drive.
This only applies to IDE (PATA) devices where there is only one hard drive and two DVD-ROMS.

Frankaz the link about PIO mode is wrong.

This is what is should be

http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=10703#piomode

That address is part of the CounterClass in the game, which is only used by ini read methods. More specifically, the [Base] and [Triggers] sections in mission files. It seems related to cutting comma-separated strings into parts.

In other words, that crash probably happens because of a badly formed trigger or base entry in a mission.

It probably happened when you were starting a mission, right? If so, was it a custom or official one?
