Hey everyone,
I noticed a number of you had questions concerning the back of our box, so I figured now is a good time to remind you of how the installation/online works
First thing to be clear about, Command & Conquer 4 does require you to be connected to the internet to play. We were pretty diligent in our marketing and communication in making this clear well beforehand. The online requirement is tied directly to your player profile login, stats/achievements, and experience progression. That's it.
Second, you do not need the disc in the machine to play Command & Conquer 4, however the following is how it works:
-AFTER you install Command & Conquer 4 with the disc on your machine, when you try to LOGIN at the Launcher for the first time, it will ask you for your serial key. You will enter in your serial key to activate your Master EA Account. The serial key, like in our past games, can only be activated for 1 master account. You cannot install multiple EA Master accounts on one serial key. You can create multiple Commander Personas however, so if you and your brothers each want your own Persona account with experience, etc, you can do that. Just has to be under the same Master EA account as in our past games.
-You can install the game from the disc as many times as you want on any machine. Re-install, etc.
-You do not need the disc in your machine to play. Your EA account just needs to have been activated by your serial key. After that, you can play Command & Conquer 4 on ANY MACHINE that has it installed. All you need to do is login.
-To play Command & Conquer 4, the computer needs to be connected to the internet. We've always made that clear as well.
So there ya go, no disc in the drive necessary, just activate your account with your serial key and presto, you're ready to go. It's actually much easier than before.
-APOC

DOES NOT COMPUTE
Seriously, Apoc. Stop the lies. The online at all times thing is just as restrictive and annoying as any other form of DRM.

People should NEVER be forced online for singleplayer.

Not to mention the front. Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy. Also, I remember the excuses around CommandCom that it was just a quick mockup that would be fixed.

I'm still wondering what happens if you're in the middle of a mission and you're internet connection craps out. It pauses? It boots you to the main menu? It crashes your comp? Does it save your game?

It was already confirmed the game gives you a few seconds to reconnect, then kicks you to the menu.
Exactly! C&C4's DRM setup is exactly the same as Assassin's Creed II, only no one's pretending AC2 has "NO DRM"

Personally i think that having to be connected to the internet is the best way forward. regardless you cant moan. it doesnt take much to connect to the internet. im not joking theres even FREE DIAL up services around the net. so one cant moan. also. if you dont have the internet, then theresnot much point in playing the game..also.. if your on these forums moaning about it.. then you got internet access so you can therefore not moan either. "unless that violates your plans to download and *** the game anyways" i read that link that someone posted on here about having to be on the internet.. "oh what if your on a plane with a laptop".. oh yeah because everday your on a plane for most of the day? also if you are on a plan, whats the point.. and that would be like 0.3% of the population that play this game that would even bother taking a laptop to play this game on the plane.. also..if you have completed it already what use is taking it onthe plane to play it. only for skirmish. thats it.. its quite simply put.. lifes hard.. and being connected to the internet assures people are buying this game.. if you dont want to buy it because its crap.. then erm dont bother downloading it illegally either..

Don't think for a moment that if, unlike me, you have a fast, stable connection with unlimited bandwidth (so you can download those 300mb patches SAGE can't do without) you're safe. Every other thread in the beta forum is someone complaining he can't run the game, because EA's wonderful autopatcher craps out.

Yes, that's a good question actually. With the constant-online requirement, are you also forced to play the latest patch, even if it ruins the experience for you?

Uhhm, no!
The best solution to get people to buy a game and not pirate it is to make a game that good that they don't want to wait for pirated versions. Sounds easy, is easy enough to try once in a while. Everything else does evidently not stop pirating, but instead just, at best, annoys the heck out of honest costumers.

And, something I've been mentioning from the start, but which is gaining more and more importance in light of the EALA layoffs and the oh so enthusiastic fan reception of C&C4: How long will support last? How many months before that "revolutionary" online system is taken down because EA don't care anymore? How many months before the game just refuses to run?
