All,

I was having issues with the blank screen right after the splash screen, and could not, for the life of me, figure it out. Called EA Tech support, and they couldn't either. On a whim, I removed the movies from the data/movie directory, and the game worked great. Not seeing this as a good solution, I decided to replace my sound card (it's good, but lack of drivers that truly support Vista was a hindrance, and left me suspicious of the stability of the hardware.

I got the SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium, and went through the process of installing, updating, etc. I replaced the movies back in the proper directory, and everything works great now.

I suggest that people look at your sound card. If it's onboard, or old, or a no-name brand, you might look for drivers, or a new card.

This was a thread related to my problem...

They need to patch the game to fix this. I was playing the game just fine all day and now I have this problem. My sound card is integrated and has the latest drivers and works perfectly on all games and did on this one until the game decided otherwise. I'm not going to buy a new sound card because EA is lazy.

Yeah I agree I have the same issue as Dguy. It was running fine up until about two hours ago then it just snapped and now everytime I try to go it crashes and fails. I tried everything on here and updated everything but it still won't work. If EA doesn't fix this problem I will go bezerk.

I can't seem to get any updates for my soundcard. My game crashes at random in the way described here. Another patch is made, but this problem hasn't been fixed. Someday, I dream of getting a game from EA that works. Hasn't happened for at least 5 years, but it would be appreciated.

Sometimes it plays for 5 minutes, sometimes 5 hours. But it will always crash to the splash screen. Last time it locked up the pc too.

Any word on a fix for this soon? I don't relish the idea of buying a new soundcard just for this game.
