GoS- you have to be aware that a computer should have both a hardware and a software firewall.

the hardware is supplied on all modems from at least 3 years ago. THIS is what i have given a tutorial on how to change- since software firewalls are softcocks and let nearly any program through by default

To reset the routing info for RA3.

* Hold the windows key on your keyboard and press the r button.
* In the run dialog box, type %APPDATA% and press enter.
* This works for both – XP and Vista.

Go into the Red Alert 3 folder.

When in that folder you'll see the Options.ini file, open it.

Search for:

GameSpyIPAddress = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (naturally there are other numbers)

To reset the routing for RA3 change these numbers to

0.0.0.0

Or simply remove the whole line.

Save and exit the file and online should work.

Of all the different things that stopped me playing...the above was the one thing that finally worked. I think this may have been the issue all along...

Thank you so much, I can finally login and play online with AOL!

in a router configuration- you can not connect directly to your modem. you need to change the settings in your router.

To do this- open control panel> Network and sharing centre, and click the connection status of your internet connection.
then click the details button. use the IPv4 default gateway address. this should open your router

for netgear however- you should find that the address will have a format of: 192.168.1.1

the final digit is your Network address on the modem- so it may be slightly different.

Still use what i have just said to help you find your address.

apt, have you seen http://www.portforward.com/?
It pretty much does the same as your guide, but includes specific instructions for every type of router along with screenshots.

yeah- but they never had anything for my own modems(even my new one) so i find that this general guide will work for 98 out of 100 modems/ routers- and if it doesn't work- you know where to look

Use port forwarding, and your friend is wrong, that router should work fine.

If you like you can make a new thread and we can do your issue specifically.
Let us know the error message if you have one.

netgear generally has a lot of issues with C&C games, but where there is a will, there is a way

did some research and found out what the ports are responsible for, for the people who want to know why they are opening up their modem for the game to play online. see original post

Hi...I tried all of this (DMZ, portforwarding) but nothing seems to help me out

I get online, chat join lobbys etc.

but everytime hosts try to start its just connection fail to all players in the game.
Strangely though i CAN play 1on1's (with one friend via the normal lobby->host system) and random 1on1 (will fail 50% of the time and work the other 50%)

Is there anyway sb can help me? Which port would be concerned by this?
